Weight Loss Injections

Posted on:

Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) are the brand names for drugs that are commonly referred to as weight loss injections. They are also known as GLP-1 (Glucagon Like Peptide 1) agonists and used for the management of type 2 diabetes by lowering blood sugars and promoting weight loss.

How do they work?

These drugs mimic naturally occurring hormones that tell your body that you are full and suppress your desire to eat so soon.

Who can have these medications?

At the practice we are currently only prescribing these medications to patients who are over 18 with type 2 diabetes and meet other clinical requirements.

These medications are not suitable for all patients.

When can I get these?

The NHS is expanding the use of these medications but this roll out is estimated to be taking place over many years and will be based upon prioritised clinical criteria and the availability of the drug.

At this time the practice is unable to prescribe these medications to these wider cohorts of patients, so please do not ask the practice to have these prescribed and please do not request an appointment to discuss this.
